Our Story

It starts with this beautiful old building known as the Bush Inn Hotel, built in 1848, it has been home to many publicans and their families. One of these families is us, the Sheehan’s. Lyn and Peter bought the Bush Inn Hotel in 1986. They had two sons at the time, Michael who was age 2 and little 6 month old Rohan. They poured their hearts and souls into this place, making it their own, befriending the locals and raising two more children Patrick and Alanna. They lived upstairs for many years, Lyn cooked the amazing food, the Kids helps out serving or washing up and Peter manned the bar. We pride ourselves on the friendly atmosphere and great service people have come to know and love for many years.

Now fast forward to 2023, Hi I’m Mike the eldest of the Sheehan siblings, my partner Belinda and I have been learning the ropes from mum and dad who have been mentoring and supporting us in our dream to relaunch/rebrand the Hotel into a brew pub and nano brewery. In fact all my family have been so supportive and have helped us along the way. When the Covid pandemic of 2020 hit we all sat down together and discussed the future of our beloved pub. We started with a little reno of the bar area adding some new beer taps and re-discovering the beautiful brickwork as well as repurposing materials where we could to maintain the character of this historic place. We wanted to create a place that was open and inviting. Reflecting our love for craft beers, Tasmanian spirits and wine, as well as our passion for local Tasmanian produce. Our creative small batch craft beers are made on site in one of the oldest parts of the building. We use local ingredients to create unique styles such as our Tasmanian truffle hound stout. Belinda and I are passionate about working with local businesses in our community and showcasing all that Tasmania has to offer. We also enjoy spending time with our two children Flynn and Harriet. I love seeing them run around the bar and through the kitchen just as I used to so many years ago. My family has always been dedicated to delivering the best service and dining experience, while creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, our new Head Chef Jazz, our fantastic Kitchen team and our friendly front of house staff have really helped us continue this tradition. We can’t wait to host you at the Bush Inn Brewhouse soon!
